Winter Diva!

Hello loves,

So its been quite some months since I have done a post. Just gotten so busy with school and everything that I haven't had time to write. So today I just have some quick tips for this winter on how to protect skin.

"The best way to tackle your winter skin woes would be to religiously moisturize your skin."

For dry skin, use petroleum gel because it has 80% oil and 20% water. Shea and cocoa butter creams are also excellent moisturizers but they are greasy, so use sparingly before going to bed.

For oily skin, use moisturizers which are non-comedogenic (water-bsaed).

For normal skin, restrict to lotions because they have oil which is mixed in alcohol and water. It is basically for people who cannot tolerate the greasiness of creams.

For sensitive skin, use a moisturizer which has aloe vera. If your skin is not prone to acne, then use glycol acid or alpha hydroxy acid before using moisturizer. It helps remove the dead and flaky skin, and opens up the pores for the moisturizer to penetrate. Also avoid using soaps especially on the face as they are alkaline. Opt for soap-free cleansers for your face and body.

Opt for liquid and cream-based makeup. Avoid powders and use primer underneath your makeup.

Glow Beautifully

During winter, our skin tends to get rough 'n' dull and if we spend a lot of time in artificially heated areas, our skin gets dehydrated too.. A natural pack not only gives your skin tightness but also much-needed extra nourishment. It basically wakes up your skin. So why not give these natural face packs up for yourself that will have your skin looking its best no matter what type of skin you have.....

For Dry Skin...

Ingredients - almond paste, ground charoli, saffron, 2% milk.

Take two teaspoon almond paste, two teaspoon ground charoli (chironji) and a pinch of saffron. Add in full fat milk (2%) and mix till you get a smooth paste. Leave it aside for about two hours. Apply on clean and dry face and leave it on for 10 mins. Rinse off your face with milk first and than warm water.

For Oily Skin...

Ingredients - neem honey, powdered camphor, apricot kernels, sandalwood powder, china clay, rose water.

Take five teaspoon neem honey. Mix in a pinch of powdered camphor and add eight apricot kernels which have been pounded coarsely. Mix in one teaspoon of sandalwood powder and one teaspoon of china clay. Add a little bit of rose water to make a smooth paste. Apply on a clean and dry face. Leave it on for 10 mins and then rinse.
(This is an antiseptic pack. Not only will it reduce the oiliness, but it will also clean pores and improve blood circulation.)

For Normal Skin...

Ingredients - oatmeal, almond powder, lemon juice, orange, strawberries, Fuller's Earth.

Take one teaspoon oatmeal, one teaspoon almond powder, and six-eight drops of lemon juice. Juice half an orange and add four mashed strawberries along with half teaspoon of Fuller's Earth. Mix all this together and apply onto clean and dry skin and keep it on for 10 mins. Wash face with ice cold water and pat dry with a towel.

For Combination Skin...

Ingredients - ground green tea powder, rice powder, apple, sandalwood powder, honey, buttermilk.

Take two teaspoon ground green tea powder, two teaspoon rice powder, half grated apple, and one teaspoon sandalwood powder. Mix with one and a half teaspoon honey. Add a little buttermilk - just enough to make a smooth paste - and apply on clean and dry skin. Keep it on for 5 to 7 minutes till semi-dry, and than gently scrub it off.

Eating Healthy and Right in Ramadan

Ok now for FOOD... If you are bengali, than this month all you will be eating are fried, greasy foods..I know its the culture and tradition and that is how it has been going on for ages. While you are planning to eat like Haleem, Piaju, Alu'r chop, Beguni, and Chola, make sure you are aware that what you intake in your body is what you are going to get out of. I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE all these food, but eating these food has cons. Too much oil in your body is never good especially from fried foods. Make sure you have plenty of fruits and vegetables on your plate because they are filled with vitamins, antioxidants. I will provide a list of vegetables and fruits that you should consider eating with all these fried foods down below.

  • FRUITS
  1. Apples - boosting immune system, whiter/healthier teeth, detoxify your immune system and HEALTHY HEART..
  2. Grapes - prevent heart disease, boost brain activity, boost metabolism, increase calorie burning, enhance endurance, and the best part is that GRAPES are 65-85% water, which means low calories, and high hydration.
  3. Strawberries - (MY FAV)  they are filled with antioxidants, boost immune system, keeping your eyes healthy, wrinkles prevention (ellagic acid visibly prevented collagen destruction and inflammatory response—two major factors in the development of wrinkles), boost fiber, and main benefit is that it helps control weight.

  • VEGETABLES
  1. Cucumbers- replenishes body because cucumbers are 95% water, aids in weight loss and digestion. Cucumbers are a great source for vitamin B and its filled with antioxidants.
  2. Steamed green beans- Vitamin K benefits the body by speeding up the healing process. Vitamin C, filled with antioxidants and helps boost the immune system.
  3. Steamed Asparagus- Its filled with Vitamins A,C,E,K and rich in fiber. Its also filled with antioxidants, and ranks one of the top vegetables thats neutralizes cell-damaging free radicals.

But most of all, make sure you drink PLENTY OF WATER WATER WATER...Those that live in the states, or in hot climate weather, Ramadan will be hard because of the weather, but instead of drinking soda or coffee, drink water so you can make up for the loss. I personally don't drink soda or coffee during Ramadan only because I get more thirsty, but I have a bad habit of drinking water. So if you are like me, drink Tang with sweetener mixed or you can drink lemon water/lime water. They are both Fantastic for weight loss, acne/pimples, and just very refreshing.

Just Eat right and Enjoy this Ramadan.

Ramadan!!

It's that time of the year.... RAMADAN!!

So for those who know me, you know I love Ramadan...!!! So for those of you who don't know about Ramadan, I will just provide some background info in case you are wondering like what it is. Uhm, ok so Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and Muslims spend this month FASTING.. Yes, I said Fasting. But its not fasting the whole month, just from sunrise to sunset for either 29/30 days depending on the moon. So the word Ramadan comes from the arabic word, ramida or al-ramad, which means scorching heat or dryness. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations, they also refrain from swearing. According to Islam, the rewards of fasting are many, but in this month they are believed to be MULTIPLIED...so say goodbye to those sins that we are not proud of. The month of Ramadan is considered to be the most sacred month of the Islamic calendar... Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement of prayer and devotion to Islam. Sunset is the time to break your fast. TIME FOR FOOD.!!! So those of you that know and those that don't know, Muslims all over the world usually breaks fast with dates. It is said that Prophet Mohammad (Swt)(pbuh) broke his fast with just three dates. Following the Ramadan, comes the holiday known as Eid-Ul-Fitr, which means "festivity of breaking of the fast." ( I will blog about that later.)

Ramadan Kareem to Everyone all over the world. I pray that your duahs are accepted and sins are forgiven during this holy month :)

xoxo

only where peace lies...

Peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul

Rajshahi.

God made everyone rich. Some people are rich because they have the most money but the richest are those that have the purest hearts.
